Domaine Maestracci
Corse Calvi AOP · Feliceto, Balagne · biodynamics
In Feliceto, in the heart of the Balagne, lies one of the oldest wine estates in Corsica. Five generations deep, and biodynamic since recently.
Five generations in the Reginu valley
The property was bought in 1893 by Pierre-Paul Tommasini. It passed to his daughters and then to Roger Maestracci, who expanded the estate after the Second World War and planted the first vineyard plots. His daughter Dominique and her husband Michel Raoust built up the commercial side.
Since 2014 Camille-Anaïs Raoust has been in charge, the fifth generation. Under her the estate moved to organic and biodynamic farming: organic certification in 2019, and Demeter for the biodynamics.
Glacial moraine from Monte Grossu
The vineyard covers some thirty hectares at around 170 metres, on a terrace of old glacial moraine from Monte Grossu (1,900 m). The soil is sandy clay — a different story from the granite of Ajaccio or the limestone of Patrimonio.
The harvest is done by hand. The main varieties are Niellucciu, Sciaccarellu, Vermentinu and Grenache, completed depending on the cuvée by Syrah or Ugni Blanc. The best-known names of the house are Clos Reginu, E Prove, E Signurine and Les Marottes d’Anaïs.
